Should I Wear False Lashes for a Headshot?

When you audition, when you perform, your eyes are very important and you don't want anything too heavy to take away your expression and what you're trying to communicate. If you don't normally wear false eyelashes, it's best to avoid them in your headshot. False lashes can emphasize the shape of the eye and add a bit of drama, but if your natural lashes are thinning, they can help fill in scattered areas and make you feel more confident. At SRK Headshot Day, we recommend that if you plan to use false eyelashes or want to try them on for your headshot, attend the session with them already on.

We use eyelashes from the Kiss Lash Couture line. Being in that demographic group, I decided to master how to apply false eyelashes a year ago. To do this, before applying any glue, gently place the eyelash on the upper lash line, aligning it with the inside of the eye, where the lashes begin. Unless it's your personal style to use extra long, full lashes, more natural lashes that aren't too long look better.

Personally, I have fallen in love with Younique's 3D Fiber Lash mascara, which I think I can apply a single layer for an everyday look or add several layers to achieve a more spectacular finish. When applying false eyelashes, it's important to make sure that they are placed along the lash line and first press the inner end of the eye inward and then touch the eyelashes along the lash line. In general, I choose eyelashes that complement the look I want to achieve, but I always choose eyelashes that have an invisible band and conical eyelash tips. If you are going to use false eyelashes, it's a good idea to use glue for eyelashes of the same color as your hair, because when the glue dries you won't have to worry about the white color you see on the glue.

It's also important to make sure that you have a tapered end of the eyelashes so that they have a natural conical appearance rather than a blunt edge. This is especially useful if this is your first time applying eyelashes, as it will reduce or eliminate the “gap between the lashes”, where you can see a space of skin between your natural lashes and false eyelashes. Not only do false eyelashes create an eye-catching lash line (without even applying eyeliner), they also give the appearance of drastically longer lashes. If at any point you decide that you no longer want extensions, your natural lashes may look plump once they're no longer in place.
